Undergraduate Education
CVEC faculty teach in multiple undergraduate departments and majors, including the Animal Biology major and the Global Disease Biology major, serving as instructors for core classes and as research mentors.
The Global Disease Biology (GDB) major and associated Senior Research Project follow an integrated approach to advance student understanding of the concept(s) of disease; the societal and personal impacts of past, present and future diseases; and the science behind disease discoveries, causes, evolution, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
The Animal Biology (ABI) major and its Practicum (an undergraduate thesis research project) provides an opportunity for students to develop research skills in the biology of animals, demonstrate critical thinking, write a substantial manuscript, and be creative in a scientific environment with close faculty interaction. With this guidance they carry out a scientific inquiry and choose corresponding restricted elective course work, essentially designing their own upper division academic program.
